Because concussion symptoms can be hard for even trained individuals to detect, neurocognitive tests have been developed to aid in recognizing the injury. The Indiana Sports Concussion Network employs the ImPACT test to gain objective information on how the brain is functioning. Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing provides a common tool used by both the coaches/trainers on the field and physicians. It uses a baseline test to account for individual differences in cognitive ability and symptom reporting. ImPACT tests are available to high schools through the generosity of Methodist Sports Medicine’s partners, the Indianapolis Colts.
